IsItOpenData followup

Filed under: IsItOpenData — Heather Piwowar @ 3:05 pm

I got involved in IsItOpenData? project a few months ago as part of the Green chain reaction initiative.  With lots of input from Peter Murray-Rust and feedback from many others, we composed emails to send to publishers asking for clarification of their policies around open data.

We sent emails to PLoS, BMC, and Nature and have since heard back from all three.  See the OKFN open science blog posts for details:

I think the responses do go some way in clarifying the various publisher attitudes and policies.

To enable others to pursue additional enquiries as easily as possible, I’ve posted a IsItOpenData? tips blurb at the OKFN blog.

Overall, this was a great project to be involved with.  I learned a lot.  Thanks PMR, and thanks to all the publishers who took the time to respond.  Alas, articulating policies around open data isn’t easy.  Hopefully some day it will be.

  1. Is there any way of merging these results into the SHERPA Romeo service, do you think?
